SAG Awards: Makeup Favourites!

I loveeeeee awards season. I actually love it.

So much glamour, so many gorgeous gown, perfect updos and glorious makeup looks - its a feast for the eyes for film & TV lovers.

Most of the star’s instagram pics of their looks tend to be captioned ‘it takes a village…’ which it really does! From stylists, to hair stylists, to makeup artists, plus all their assistants - it takes a lot of hands on deck to wow the world with just one knockout look. But bravo to those glam teams, because my-oh-my what a fantastic job they do.

I’ll save the jabbering for the winners’ speeches, here’s some of my favourite makeup looks from the 2019 SAG awards:

Aja Naomi King

Need a lesson on ‘How to Get Away with Murder’? A killer navy smokey eye to contrast a mustard yellow dress is how. Aja’s MUA Mylah Morales absolutely nailed this makeup look, using L’oreal Paris makeup. Her skin looks radiant but sculpted to the gods, complimented by the winged shadow look that is just so flattering on her darker skin tone.

Lady Gaga

Gaga has been flooding our social media feeds with endless old Hollywood glamour since her big screen debut in ‘A Star is Born’ but stays true to her weird self with this look with a choker necklace to contrast an elegant makeover. I’m so glad someone has finally made use of the ‘green-gold’ glitter colour everyone has but never uses. Gaga’s MUA Sarah Tanno must love how experimental she is able to be with her, I’m so jealous. This look shows the world that a bold dark berry lip will never die - no matter how many nude liquid lipsticks are released!

Lucy Boynton

Mama mia, mama mia! (She’s in Bohemian Rapsody…get it?) UK MUA Jo Baker throwing a punk runway look into the mix with this simple but striking makeup look. Loving how the line continues on the inner corner of the waterline to tie it in, and how the lines work with her hair piece. Jo Baker says the look was ‘inspired by stark black powerlines and wrought iron gates’ and wanted to show off how negative space can be just as effective as shading. Agreed!

Awkwafina

Now I’m not usually much of a fan of matching red lips to a red dress (unless the colour match is identical) but this look is soooo flattering on the rapper and ‘Pretty, Rich Asians’ star. Following popular asian beauty trends, she sports porcelain skin, a pressed on, sheer red lip colour and a simple eye look with a winged liner. This look is simple but so effective, especially at not clashing with or outdoing the statement dress.

Margot Robbie

Yes, yes, we know Margot, you are bloody gorg and can do no wrong. No but seriously, this look is all this stunning actress needs to steal the awards show. Margot’s long time MUA Pati Dubroff rarely steps a foot out of place but this look, using Chanel makeup, not only works with her dress and accessories perfectly, but its low key and shows her audience that something less is absolutely more. Sheer, metallic warm golds and copper hues on the eyes, no falsies; pink cheeks and lips as wink to current beauty trends, and luminous creamy skin - just stunning!
